Brand New Shoes
The latest editions of the Grammy Awards have reminded us that there is nothing more modern than vintage.
If only a few days ago Beyonce, Lizzo and Harry Styles were triumphing on the stage of the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles with “nostalgic” songs and sounds, in recent years the various Mark Ronson, Daft Punk, Bruno Mars, Pharrell Williams, Anderson.Paak, etc., have shown the whole world how current and funky beats can be! Among us there are those who have danced at least once to the notes of Get Lucky and Uptown Funk and there are those who lie!
But it is from Italy that comes a new gem that promises to keep our heads and feet moving throughout next spring.
The Bel Paese, not content with climbing the world charts with Måneskin’s rock, is now hitting on the groove of Gionathan and his new “Brand New Shoes.”
A song that has all the elements of a hit and which, not surprisingly, begins (and then ends) with one of those killer tunes that sticks in your head and you can’t help but hum on a loop; supported by a commanding bass line and a horn section worthy of the best Motown tradition, the song sounds like it came straight from a James Brown album.
Instead, the voice and pen are those of a European boy who, in truly believable English, reminds us that to feel good “no matter what’s the way you look” “just bring your attitude and your brand new shoes.” An invitation to carefreeness that listening to the song one would rather struggle to refuse.
Gionathan, with this new single, once again proves himself among the new domestic artists to be the one with such an international attitude that he reminds us of a certain Zucchero Sugar Fornaciari.
As Italians we are rooting for him, and we wish “Brand New Shoes” to make the world dance, as he is already making us dance.
